Etowah City School Parent Involvement Plan

ETOWAH CITY SCHOOL

PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLAN

GOAL 1

Etowah City School will develop a Parent Involvement Plan.

Action Plan:

·        The Etowah City School Planning Committee will meet together in order to develop the Parent Involvement Plan.

·        Parents, community members, and Etowah City School board members will be represented on the school planning committee.

·        Etowah City School administrators, along with the school planning committee, will review and revise the Parent Involvement Plan annually.

·        The Parent Involvement Plan will be posted on the ECS website for all stakeholders to review.  Contact information will be given so that stakeholders can make recommendations for changes to the plan.

·        Teachers from the Pre-K class will be included on the School Planning Committee.

 

GOAL 2

The Etowah City School Parent Involvement Plan will be evaluated and revised in order to improve parent and community activities at the school.

Action Plan:

·        An annual survey will be administered to determine the effectiveness of the Parent Involvement Plan and parent involvement activities of the school.  The ECS School Planning Committee will oversee the distribution and data analysis of the survey.

·        Using the survey results, the School Planning Committee will evaluate barriers that prevent people with diverse backgrounds from participating in parent and community involvement activities at the school.

·        Survey results will also be used in order to design strategies for more parent involvement.  Teachers, parents, school staff, and administration will plan activities from these strategies during staff development or in-service days.

·        The Etowah City School Board will annually review and approve the ECS Parent Involvement Plan.

·        Stakeholders may submit recommendations for changes to the plan at any time to the Federal Projects Coordinator. 

 

GOAL 3

Etowah City School will provide timely, ongoing, and organized communication between the parents, community, and school.

Action Plan:

·        Monthly calendars and newsletters will be sent to all ECS parents to provide information concerning upcoming events, along with information about what is happening at ECS.

·        The ECS website will provide up-to-date announcements, curricular guidelines, and other pertinent information. 

·        All students will be given a student handbook that contains the school calendar and information regarding school policies and procedures.

·        Students in grades 3-8 will have a student planner to list homework assignments and to provide another communication tool between teachers and parents.  

·        Students in grades K-2 will have a student folder that will be sent home weekly.

·        A sign in front of the school will be utilized to announce upcoming events.

·        Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held four times yearly.

·        Notes will be sent home to address specific student needs or school activities.  Technology will be used in order to provide information that is easy-to-read and in the language best suited for each household.

·        Parents will be encouraged to contact the school at any time to schedule a conference with any staff member. 

·        Progress Reports will be sent home with all students at the middle point of each grading period. 

·        Report cards will be sent home no later than one week after the ending of each grading period.

 

GOAL 4

Etowah City School will encourage family and community participation in school activities.

Action Plan:

·        The Etowah City School PTSO will host regularly scheduled meetings for parent involvement activities.

·        Family Reading Nights will be held monthly to encourage parents and students to read together.

·        Volunteers will be solicited for various school and classroom needs.

·        Parents are invited to eat lunch with their children as desired. 

·        Each November, Etowah City School will host a special Veteran’s Day breakfast and ceremony for all community veterans and their families.

·        Many opportunities will be given throughout the year for parent participation, such as field trips, classroom volunteer work, sporting events, field day, and special holiday activities.

·        Parents of students in the Pre-K class will be included in all ECS parent involvement activities.

·        ECS will coordinate with Woods Memorial Hospital to enhance learning opportunities for all students.

·        ECS will host an annual meeting in order to explain the school’s participation with Title I, the requirements of Title I, the rights of parents to be involved in the school, and the school’s progress on academic assessments.  More than one meeting will be held in order to provide a choice of meeting times to accommodate parents’ schedules.

GOAL 5

Etowah City School will provide information for parents to become more involved in their child’s education.

Action Plan:

·        Monthly Reading Newsletters will be sent home with students in grades Pre-K-3 to provide parents with tips on how to help their child begin to read or improve their reading skills.

·        Curricular information will be posted on the school website.

·        Notices and reminders will be sent to parents with information about annual TCAP assessment administration.

·        An annual Open House will be held at ECS to give parents an opportunity to learn about their child’s curriculum for the year and how they can help them with their homework.

·        Parents will be included in the development or revision of the Student-Parent-School Compact.  These compacts will be utilized during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

·        Each child’s progress on academic assessments will be sent home, along with information on how to understand the assessment report and expected proficiency levels.

·        Parents will have access to their children’s course of study and learning materials during parent-teacher conferences or upon request.
